About Me
My name is Justin Buckelew, aka “Bucky.” I’m a former professional motocross racer turned coach, focused on helping riders of all ages and skill levels improve the right way.
I bring years of real track experience into every session—working on body positioning, technique, line choice, race craft, and the mental side of riding. The goal is simple: build confidence, increase speed, and create lasting progress.
If you’re ready to take your riding to the next level, I’m here to help.
My Story
I grew up in a motocross family. I started riding at age 3 and racing by age 5, traveling the country competing in the top amateur events. My grandfather founded Bobby J’s Yamaha—the longest-running family-owned Yamaha dealership in the country—so motorcycles have been a part of my life from the very beginning.
As an amateur, I competed against some of the best riders of my era, including Ricky Carmichael, Travis Pastrana, Ernesto Fonseca, Ivan Tedesco, and others. During that time, I earned over 50 national titles, including:
-
4 AMA Loretta Lynn Championships
-
12 Ponca City Championships
-
15 World Mini GP Titles
-
15 Texas Spring National Titles
-
Multiple Mini O Championships
-
1997 Bronze Boot Award
I went on to race professionally, earning 4 AMA Supercross podiums, multiple top 10 finishes, and a career-best 3rd overall in the series. I also won the San Diego Supercross Lites main event in 2001 and the 125cc class at Bercy Supercross, where I was named “Prince of Bercy” in 2000.
At 26, after starting a family, I made the decision to step away from racing and transition into coaching full time. That decision has shaped everything I do today.
For the past 18 years, I’ve worked with hundreds—likely over a thousand—riders, developing a coaching approach built on real experience, proven technique, and individualized instruction.
My focus is simple:
Build strong fundamentals first—body positioning, technique, and control—so riders can safely and confidently increase their speed and performance over time.
Every rider is different, and I take pride in giving each one the attention they need to improve the right way.
I look forward to helping you or your rider take the next step.
